The agreement covers efforts to increase the placement and acceptance of Indonesian participants in the technical internship program, as well as information sharing, problem-solving and participant protection during their placements, the ministry said.

“This signing marks an important milestone in strengthening Indonesia-Japan cooperation, particularly in human resource development and technical internships,” Ministry of Manpower Secretary General Cris Kuntadi said.

The agreement is also intended to establish mechanisms for sharing information to support participants’ career development and independence after they return to Indonesia, Kuntadi said.

“Japan has valuable experience, technology, and a culture of productivity, while Indonesia has a pool of talented human resources ready to contribute,” Kuntadi said.

He added that implementation of the signed MoC would subsequently be aligned with developments in Japan’s labor policies, particularly the Employment for Skill Development (ESDP) program.

Indonesia is committed to preparing workers with the skills, Japanese language proficiency, work ethic, and understanding of workplace culture needed in Japan.

The government also hopes Yamaguchi will continue to support a safe and conducive working and social environment for Indonesian workers.

Kuntadi said the memorandum was expected to lead to concrete and measurable programs benefiting participants, companies, and communities in both countries.

“It should also serve as an initial foundation for implementing the new ESDP policy, which is scheduled to take effect early next year,” he said.
