SINGAPORE (Reuter): Indonesia's import allocation of dual
purpose kerosene (DPK) in May was estimated at 1.2 million
barrels, and its gas oil imports were also at 1.2 million
barrels, industry sources said yesterday.
They said most of its DPK demand have been covered but it
still has requirements for 400,000 barrels of gas oil.
In April, Indonesia imported about 900,000 barrels of DPK and
1.7 million barrels of gas oil.
Indoesia normally imports about 500,000 barrels of DPK and
around 2.0 million barrels of gas oil a month.
The sources said the higher DPK imports in April and May were
due to increased international flights during the haj season as
Moslems make their annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.
The pilgrims travel to Mecca during April and make their return
trip during May.
The DPK was transported to the two main airports -- the
Soekarno-Hatta Airport near Jakarta and the Surabaya airport,
they added.
The lower gas oil imports during the two months were due to
higher stocks at the 300,000-barrel-per-day (bpd) Cilacap
refinery in central Java, and the 120,000-bpd Dumai refinery in
Riau, they said.
