RI hosts international teachers meet

BOGOR, West Java: At least 75 teachers from 12 countries are attending the third International Teachers Conference here as a forum for cultural and intellectual exchanges among them.

The event's organizing committee chairwoman, Tina Wingawati, said teachers participating in the conference were offering programs to each other and working together in a joint project that would involve their students back home.

Indonesia is represented by 16 teachers, mostly from outside of Jakarta.

The ongoing conference, which opened on Sunday and will run through Thursday, is organized by the Asia-Europe Foundation in cooperation with Bogor-based Madania International School as part of the implementation of agreements reached during the Asia- Europe Meeting in Bali last July.

Organizers will select three top teachers during the event, each will be awarded US$2,500.

President Megawati Soekarnoputri is scheduled to receive participants of the conference at the State Palace on Wednesday. -- JP
