RI hailed for antiterror drive

JAKARTA: U.S. congressmen Dan Burton and Robert Wexler, cochairmen of the Congressional Indonesia Caucus, have applauded the recent unanimous passage of a bipartisan resolution condemning the Sept. 9 terror attack in Jakarta.

"The government of Indonesia and her people have shown courage throughout this tragic time. I applaud their efforts to overcome this tragedy and proceed with peaceful elections, and I look forward to working with the next government in strengthening U.S.-Indonesian relations," Wexler said in a statement from Washington.

He and Burton expressed condolences for the families of at least 10 people killed in the bombing outside the Australian Embassy in Jakarta.

"This cowardly attack must not and will not shake the will of Indonesians who serve as a shinning example of a Muslim state embracing democracy," Burton said in the same statement. -- JP
