RI Govt fully funds rehabilitation for human trafficking survivors

“The entire recovery and rehabilitation process for human trafficking survivors is fully funded by the government,” Yusuf said after a national meeting of the National Anti-Human Trafficking Network.

The ministry’s assistance program has three stages: psychosocial rehabilitation, economic empowerment and social reintegration, Yusuf said.

Psychosocial rehabilitation focuses on gradually restoring survivors’ mental and physical well-being so they can resume daily activities.

The initial rehabilitation period lasts three months and can be extended based on individual needs, for up to two years, Yusuf said.

Survivors deemed ready to live independently are reunited with their families or supported through social reintegration after completing the assistance program.

The ministry has optimized 31 integrated service centers across Indonesia, including facilities in Jakarta, Bandung and Solo, which also serve as safe houses.

“From 2011 to 2026, we have provided rehabilitation services to more than 128,000 survivors, including assistance and empowerment programs,” Yusuf said.

From 2024 through July 2026, the ministry served more than 3,000 survivors, showing that human trafficking remains a serious problem, Yusuf said.

The Witness and Victim Protection Agency has urged greater use of the Victim Assistance Fund to help ensure restitution rights for trafficking victims, particularly those sexually exploited.

LPSK Deputy Chairman Antonius PS Wibowo made the proposal during the launch of Supreme Court guidelines on restitution in human trafficking cases.

The guidelines aim to strengthen victim recovery mechanisms amid difficulties in securing full restitution from perpetrators.
