RI Government strengthens university response to sexual violence
Minister Brian Yuliarto welcomed Komnas Perempuan’s initiative as part of creating safer higher education environments and expressed openness to collaborative efforts across institutions.
“This meeting clarifies each institution’s services and identifies areas where inter-agency synergy can be strengthened,” Yuliarto said in a statement received Sunday.
He noted discussions included extending existing memorandums of understanding and enhancing cooperation in line with new regulations, especially after the enactment of the Sexual Violence Crime Law (UU TPKS).

Monitoring shows several universities have received and addressed a growing number of reports, reflecting increased trust in campus reporting mechanisms.
Komnas Perempuan Chair Maria Ulfah Anshor stressed refining indicators for violence-free campuses and strengthening campus task forces for prevention and response.
“There may also be changes, including new regulations,” Maria Ulfah added, highlighting ongoing adjustments needed in campus policies.
She noted implementation challenges, including aligning campus administrative procedures with criminal justice processes and ensuring prevention of revictimization.
The meeting reaffirmed both institutions’ commitment to promoting responsive, accountable, and victim-centered governance in universities, in accordance with the UU TPKS mandate.
