RI gets aid from Japan

JAKARTA (JP): The Japanese government yesterday extended a grant of some Rp 49.4 billion (US$22.45 million) for the development of two projects in the eastern provinces of Indonesia.

The diplomatic notes of the grant were signed here yesterday by Japanese ambassador Taizo Watanabe (left) and the Indonesian director general for foreign economic relations, Wisber Loeis (right).

The two projects consist of a Rp 30.9 billion water reservoir project in East Nusa Tenggara and the upgrading of the Barombong Rating School in Ujungpandang, South Sulawesi.

Development of the reservoir is aimed at providing badly needed water to four areas on Timor island and another area on Roti island. Meanwhile the improvement of the Barombong school is meant to help promote the training of highly skilled seamen. (mds)
