RI gets ADB loan

MANILA (AFP): The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a
US$1.12-million technical assistance grant to Indonesia to
improve irrigation management.

The technical study will undertake a half-way review of a 1987
policy to gradually transfer the operation and maintenance of
irrigation systems from the government to water user
associations, completing it by 2002.

"It is timely to review the quantitative and qualitative
achievements and the problems encountered so that necessary
adjustments to the program may be introduced," the Manila-based
ADB said in a statement.
