SINGAPORE: Smoke from forest fires in the Indonesian island of
Sumatra has pushed the pollution level in Singapore to its
highest point so far this year, the National Environment Agency
(NEA) said on Friday.
Satellite picture have shown a number of hot spots on the
island since Tuesday, but the spike in pollution readings did not
necessarily signal a full-blown return of haze, the NEA said.
The index hit 63 on Wednesday. A reading below 50 is
considered good with moderate air quality indicated by a reading
of 51 to 100. From 101 to 200 is unhealthy, and very unhealthy is
from 201 to 300. --DPA
