RI foreign minister visits Russia

MOSCOW: Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Hassan Wirajuda, is visiting Russia, where he will meet his counterpart Igor Ivanov for talks on the fight against international terrorism and other global challenges.

"It is expected that the sides will discuss the problems of consolidation of general peace, international and regional security, disarmament with an accent on the importance of strengthening the multilateral regimes of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the Middle East settlement, the situation in Afghanistan and around Iraq, and the reforms of the UN Security Council," Russian foreign ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko said as quoted by Antara on Tuesday.

Cooperation with Indonesia is an important track of Russia's policy in Southeast Asia and in the Asia Pacific region as a whole, Yakovenko added.

Bilateral trade between the two countries reached US$203.5 million last year. Both countries hope to broaden the "economic, investment, and military technical and other cooperation".

The Russian-Indonesian economic cooperation commission will hold its first meeting on Wednesday and Thursday. -- Antara
