RI foreign debt $144.24b

JAKARTA (JP): Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Finance, and Industry Kwik Kian Gie said on Wednesday that Indonesia's foreign debts as of March 31 totaled US$144.24 billion.

He said $75.04 billion of the total were the government's debts, and $69.2 billion were private companies' offshore debts.

Indonesia booked a cumulative current account surplus of $10.3 billion between July 1997 and March 2000, and during the same period net capital outflow was $12.6 billion, the minister said in a statement.

In the same period, the government received $28.4 billion in loans from international creditors, including the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the Consultative Group on Indonesia.

The government repaid $8.9 billion of its offshore debt during the same period, according to the minister's statement. (10)
