RI FM to speak at UN session

JAKARTA: Indonesia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Hassan Wirayuda is scheduled to deliver a speech on the democratization progress in Indonesia during a discussion on Sept. 27 at the 59th United Nations General Assembly session in New York, said ministry spokesperson Yuri Octavian Thamrin.

"On this occasion, the minister will also stress the importance of strengthening multilateralism through a UN reform, so this organization will have more power in maintaining peace and security around the world and to initiate development cooperation to attain prosperity of the world population," he told reporters on Friday.

Hassan will also meet with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. However, the schedule of the meeting was not disclosed.

This year's session is expected to set the ground work for the High Level Plenary meeting in the next UN General Assembly session in 2005 when the participants will evaluate the progress of the Millennium Development Goals. -- JP
