RI fishermen detained

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Thirteen fishermen missing since early last month are reportedly being detained in the Nicobar Islands for illegally entering Indian waters.

Antara quoted Sabang police chief Lt. Col. Enjang Sudrajat as saying the fishermen, from Weh Island in Sabang and Meulaboh in West Aceh, were arrested by a Port Blair patrol.

One of the men, M. Nasir, captain of KM Makmue Beusaree-III, wrote to Sabang fishery officials mid-June about their arrest on June 10 and subsequent detention.

Nasir said he and his three friends from Weh were in good condition and being treated well.

The other nine fishermen from West Aceh and were sailing on three motor boats, Armada Laut 06, Armada Laut 04 and Armad Nurhalim, when they were arrested near the same area. (swe)
