BANGKOK (Agencies): The Indonesian tennis team got off to a
shaky start at the Federation Cup Asia-Oceania qualifying
tournament here on Monday, losing to top seeded Chinese Taipei 1-
2 in their pool A match.
The Taiwanese settled the issue when their tennis queen, Wang
Shi-ting, made short work of Indonesia's number one, Wynne
Prakusya, 6-0, 6-1, for an unbeatable 2-0 lead. Janet Lee had put
Chinese Taipei ahead in the opening singles match with a come
from behind 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over Liza Andriyani.
Indonesia received some consolation after the doubles team of
Wynne and Irawati Moerid Iskandar beat Hsu Hseuh-li and Weng Tze-
ting 6-0, 6-2 in the dead rubber.
In pool B, second seeded China, playing without ace Li Fang,
routed Hong Kong 3-0 without dropping a set.
The winner of the week-long tournament earns a place in the
World Group qualifying round for next seasons competition.
