RI extradites Islamic militant suspect
MALAYSIA: Indonesian police extradited an Islamic militant
suspect to Malaysia two months after he was arrested for a spate
of bombings in Jakarta, news reports said on Saturday.
The Star daily said 29-year-old Saharani Mohd Esa was wanted
in Malaysia for his alleged involvement in a militant group
trying to topple Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's secular
government.
The Malay-language Utusan Malaysia daily said Indonesian
police officials handed Saharani to local authorities at a
military base in Kuala Lumpur late on Friday.
Indonesian police arrested Saharani and another Malaysian,
Taufik Abdul Halim, in connection with the bombings of several
churches and a shopping mall in Jakarta in July.
Taufik is still being detained in Jakarta. It is not known if
Malaysian police had also sought his extradition. -- AP
