JAKARTA: Indonesia plans to take part in the Asia-Pacific
Bridge Championship in Bangkok next June, with high hopes of
outscoring Chinese Taipei for the position of the tournament's
strongest team.
Indonesia has won 12 times in as many occasions. This is the
same as Chinese Taipei, which took the trophy last year.
Indonesia's last triumph was in Jakarta in 2000.
"Chinese Taipei and Indonesia will prove at the 2002
championship which of us is the best team in this annual event,"
Bert Toar Polii, an official of the Indonesian Contract-Bridge
Association (Gabsi), said here on Tuesday.
The PABF championship will run from June 13 to June 23. Bert
said that Indonesia was likely to field its regular pairs in Edy
Manoppo/Henky Lasut, Denny Sacul/Franky Karwur and Robert
Tobing/Santje Panelewen. -- JP
