RI debt talks still in June

FRANKFURT (Dow Jones): The next round of debt restructuring talks between Indonesia and its international creditors is still planned for the week of June 1, a Deutsche Bank AG spokesman said yesterday.

"There is no reason to change that plan," the spokesman said, in response to a query on whether the resignation of Indonesian President Soeharto a day earlier will affect the scheduled talks.

The spokesman added that an exact date for the talks, which will be held in Frankfurt, hasn't yet been set.

The talks had originally been scheduled to take place May 26, but were postponed early this week amid rioting and violence in the country.

Soeharto stepped down from the presidency Thursday, and former Vice President B.J. Habibie - a controversial figure among international bankers and Indonesians alike - took his place.

Indonesia and its creditors began talks in New York in April to restructure up to $80 billion of debt.
