RI cyclists earn medals at Asian C'ships

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia's Kuala Lumpur 2001 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games cyclists grabbed two silver medals and three bronze medals at the Asian Championships from July 7 to July 17 in Chinese Taipei.

"Our cyclists have performance well in track events, though, those in road race events have yet to improve their results," secretary general of the Indonesian Cycling Association (ISSI), Sofyan Ruzian told Antara on Tuesday.

"In general, they have performed better than our competitors in the SEA Games but we have to be careful with the Vietnamese and Thai cyclists," he added.

Silver medals were won by the women's 3,000-meter team pursuit and point race events. Three bronze medals came from the women's 3,000-meter individual pursuit, elimination and Olympic sprint events.

Although the men's cyclists failed to grab a medal, the 4,000- meter team pursuit of Teguh, Iwan Rahmat, Wawan Setyobudi, and Kohar clocked 4:31 minutes, which is better than the SEA Games record of 4:40 minutes recorded by Malaysian cyclists. (nvn)
