RI cricket team named for Vanuatu
JAKARTA: The Indonesian Cricket Foundation (ICF) has selected nine local players in its 22-strong squad to represent the country in the EAP Cricket Cup in Vanuatu in September and October.
Headed by captain John Stevenson, the remainder of the team is made up of expatriate residents of the country. Half of the squad is based in Jakarta and plays cricket regularly in the Kabelvision JCA Cricket League.
"My dream is to see more Indonesians playing this great game," Stevenson said. "We have a small group of Indonesian cricketers who are improving all the time and am I confident that the team will perform well in Vanuatu, but we need to get more Indonesians playing cricket."
The event is conducted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) Development Program's East Asia Pacific Office, and the Vanuatu Cricket Association. The tournament serves as a ranking event for the EAP's affiliate member countries, of which Indonesia is one, and will form part of the ICC's World Cup qualifying series. -- JP
