RI completes losing streak
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia, preparing for the Asia Nations Cup, managed to end its three-match streak with no goals, but it was not enough to prevent a 4-1 defeat by Saudi Arabia in Riyadh on Friday night.
Ronny Wabia scored a consolation goal nine minutes before time, but only after the home team rifled four goals into Indonesia's net.
The defeat brings Indonesia's losing streak to five in as many international friendly matches. The matches were played in a run- up to the Asia Nations Cup, which begins today in the United Arab Emirates. Indonesia early on scored a goal in its 2-1 loss to Moldova, but let its goal deficit grow over the next three friendlies by conceding 11 more.
Despite their porous defense, Indonesian coach Danurwindo has kept up his courage. "I'm convinced that we'll do our best to match our stronger rivals," he was quoted by Antara as saying.
In the Cup, Indonesia joins Kuwait, host UAE and 1994 World Cup finalist South Korea in the very difficult Group B. (amd)
