RI clerics to join Islamic meeting
JAKARTA: Indonesia has sent five representatives from the country's largest and second largest Muslim organizations, Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah respectively, to a conference of clerics and Muslim intellectuals being held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, this week.
The Ministry for Religious Affairs said in a statement the five clerics were former minister Tarmizi Taher, Abdul Rasyd Fanai, Abu Yamin Roham, Yunahar Ilyas and Tabrani Syabirin.
Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is expected to open the meeting, which will run from June 29 to July 1. -- Antara
