RI-China association opened in Medan

MEDAN, North Sumatra: The Indonesia-China Friendship
Association (PPIC) for the northern Sumatra region was officiated
in the capital of North Sumatra last Saturday.

Also attending the inauguration ceremony held at the Polonia
Hotel were Chen Shi Qiu, the Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia,
Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Jacob Nua Wea and
Governor of North Sumatra Tengku Rizal Nurdin.

Qiu appreciated the amount of cooperation that had taken place
between the two countries in politics, economics and culture
since bilateral ties resumed in 1990.

The good bilateral ties were also reflected by official
visits. Former president Abdurrahman Wahid visited China at the
end of 1999 and China's Premier Zhu Rongji visited Indonesia in
November 2001.

Jacob, who was appointed as an advisor of PPIC, appreciated
the establishment of the association and not China's office as
was recently reported, which was expected to enhance mutual
confidence and trust between the two countries. --JP
