RI car sales top 26,000 units

JAKARTA: Domestic vehicle sales reached 26,056 units in
January, according to the Association of Indonesian Automotive
Industries (Gaikindo).

The association said in a statement that of the total sales,
22,822 units were sold on the domestic market, while 3,234 units
were sold on the export market.

PT Astra International accounted for more than fifty percent
of the total sales in the month with domestic and overseas sales
of 14,445 units.

Gaikindo said Astra's domestic vehicle sales in January were
dominated by the Toyota Kijang multipurpose van, which sold 6,029
units.

In the passenger market, Suzuki led the non-Astra group with
sales of 328 units, followed by Honda with 281 and Mercedes Benz
with 262.

Total domestic motorcycle sales grew to 171,632 units in
January from 76,924 units in December, the association said --JP
