RI, Australia meet on illegal fishing

JAKARTA: The Indonesian and Australian governments opened a high-level bilateral fisheries meeting here on Wednesday to advance cooperation on the common challenge of illegal fishing.

"Both countries are affected by illegal foreign fishing," a statement from the Australian Embassy said.

The three-day meeting was opened by Indonesian Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Freddy Numberi and Australian Ambassador to Indonesia David Ritchie.

Key issues for discussion will include illegal foreign fishing, cooperation on shared stock management and development cooperation assistance. -- JP
