RI and PNG build lighthouses
JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: Indonesia and Papua New Guinea have agreed to build lighthouses along their common sea boundary to minimize illegal border crossings, an official said.
The agreement was reached in the latest border liaison meeting on board the KM Dobonsolo luxury vessel belonging to Indonesia's state-owned shipping company, PT Pelni.
Indonesia and Papua New Guinea will build two lighthouses each on the northern and southern borders, the Antara news agency reported.
The lighthouses are intended to help fishermen from both countries in recognizing the territorial border, thereby minimizing infringement, officials said. (pan)
