Jakarta, VIVA – The candidate for Chairperson of the BPP HIPMI (Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association), number one, Reynaldo Bryan, stated that the tourism sector serves as a locomotive for national economic development due to its massive multiplier effect and tangible impact. During the second debate for the BPP HIPMI Chairperson in Nusa Dua, Bali, Reynaldo emphasised that this sector is not only a primary source of foreign exchange but also directly drives the grassroots economy. “It also creates millions of jobs and triggers the acceleration of infrastructure development in various regions,” Reynaldo said in a statement on Saturday, 23 May 2026.

According to him, in 2025, the tourism sector absorbed 25.91 million workers in Indonesia and contributed approximately 4 to 4.5 per cent to the GDP. “In 2025, our tourism sector recorded a brilliant milestone with around 15.39 million international tourist arrivals,” he noted. However, looking ahead, Reynally hopes that the development of tourism potential will not only focus on Java and Bali but must be expanded to other regions across Indonesia.

“We need to learn from Japan; they have successfully implemented diversification so that tourism is not just focused on major cities but is distributed across all regions,” said Reynaldo. He believes Japan has executed its tourism strategy very well by focusing on promoting local culture and empowering regional MSMEs. The country is also noted for successfully strengthening tourism digitalisation and building infrastructure and connectivity for every region to ensure an integrated tourism ecosystem.

Reynaldo expressed hope that Bali Province could serve as a role model for how a region can advance and develop rapidly by optimising its tourism potential. “Bali is an example of successful downstreaming in the tourism sector. The impact is felt not only by large entrepreneurs but also boosts the income of MSMEs, ranging from culinary businesses and homestays to local souvenir vendors,” Reynaldo added. Consequently, he promised that if elected as the Chairperson of BPP HIPMI, he would position HIPMI as a driver for Indonesian tourism. “With the capabilities and networks we possess, HIPMI can help advance an inclusive, modern, sustainable, and world-class Indonesian tourism sector,” he concluded.
