Reviving the Glory of Indramayu's Mambo Market

INDRAMAYU — A row of stalls at Mambo Market Indramayu appears quiet, with little trading activity. The subdued mood is even more evident as many stalls are abandoned by their owners. The scene contrasts with the bustle of Mambo Market in the 1980s. The market, located in the heart of Indramayu town, was a centre of activity that never ceased. Now, Indramayu Regency’s Regent Lucky Hakim plans to rekindle the market’s former glory. He intends to reorganise the area to be neater, more conducive, and orderly, even projecting it as an expanded reach for Car Free Night (CFN). Moreover, the move is seen to present greater opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM / MSMEs). Residents could spend their weekends in a more comfortable setting with their families by visiting the market in due course. Lucky has already visited Mambo Market to finalise the plan. He spoke informally with traders at Mambo Market to discuss the scenarios for area planning. ‘We will try a few scenarios,’ he said on Friday (6 March 2026).
