JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government targets the completion of the revitalisation of 445 slum neighbourhoods by 2027 as part of the medium-term strategy for urban settlement planning in Jakarta.

This target is outlined in the DKI Jakarta Medium-Term Regional Development Plan (RPJMD) 2025–2029, which also serves as the policy framework for addressing slum areas, including those along railway tracks.

Special Staff to the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Chico Hakim, stated that by 2024, 284 slum neighbourhoods have been addressed. The remainder will be completed gradually until 2027.

“In the RPJMD, a total of around 445 slum neighbourhoods are targeted to be addressed. By 2024, 284 have already been handled, and the rest will be completed gradually until 2027,” Chico said in a written statement on Sunday (26/4/2026).

In 2025, the Provincial Government targets the revitalisation of an additional 55 neighbourhoods as part of accelerating the programme.

This step is taken to prevent the emergence of new slum settlements while reducing accident risks around railway lines.

“The approach includes relocation to decent housing, enforcement of state land regulations, and prevention of new occupations, including the installation of boundary fences at vulnerable points,” he said.

The programme also involves various parties, including the central government and PT Kereta Api Indonesia, which owns some of the land along the railway tracks.

In addition to providing housing, the government is preparing basic infrastructure to ensure that the new areas are truly habitable and integrated with the urban system.

For clean water needs, the Provincial Government will coordinate with PAM Jaya. Meanwhile, healthcare and education services will involve relevant agencies. In the transportation sector, public transport access will be integrated to maintain residents’ mobility.

“The DKI Provincial Government is ready to fully support the provision of supporting infrastructure at the new housing locations,” Chico said.

The housing will be built on land owned by PT Kereta Api Indonesia and PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, with an area of approximately 5,600 square metres.

A total of 324 housing units are being prepared, consisting of 172 units in the rear area and 152 units in the front. Each unit is designed with a minimalist concept measuring 4.5 metres x 4.5 metres.

This project is targeted to be completed in June 2026 and forms part of the support for the slum area revitalisation programme in Jakarta.
