Revision of Aceh Governance Law Expected to Be Completed This Year
Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas hopes that deliberations on the revision of Law No. 11 of 2006 on Aceh Governance can be completed this year. This is especially so as President Prabowo Subianto has instructed him to coordinate with the House of Representatives (DPR RI).
Supratman, speaking at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Monday (17/8/2026), said he had met with Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf, Aceh Deputy Governor Fadhlullah, and members of the Aceh House of Representatives (DPRA) regarding the deliberations. “We consulted in the context of deliberating the Aceh Special Autonomy Law, which will expire in 2027, and the President has instructed me to coordinate with our colleagues in the DPR,” Supratman said.
“We hope that the Aceh special autonomy can be completed this year,” he added.
The regulation currently being deliberated by the DPR is the revision of Law No. 11 of 2006 on Aceh Governance. One of the issues in the revision is the continuation of the Aceh Special Autonomy Fund, which under current provisions will expire in 2027.
The Aceh Special Autonomy Fund is provided for a period of 20 years as stipulated in Article 183 of Law No. 11 of 2006 on Aceh Governance. The DPR’s Legislation Body has previously agreed to extend the implementation of the Aceh Special Autonomy Fund in the drafting of the Bill on Amendments to Law No. 11 of 2006 on Aceh Governance.
The deliberations on the revision of the Aceh Governance Law also cover a number of provisions regarding the special status and authority of the Aceh Government. On that occasion, Supratman called on all Acehnese people to maintain unity and the sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
Previously, unrest occurred during a series of dhikr and communal prayers commemorating the 21st anniversary of Aceh Peace Day in the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque area, Banda Aceh, on Saturday (15/8/2026). During the event, a number of people raised the Star and Crescent Flag, which is associated with the Free Aceh Movement (GAM), before unrest broke out as security personnel carried out enforcement.
Aceh Deputy Governor Fadhlullah said in Banda Aceh on Monday that the commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence in Aceh proceeded safely and called on the public to continue maintaining peace. “We hope that all Acehnese people, wherever they are, let us maintain peace, calm, and most importantly, let us work together as fellow Acehnese to realise a prosperous and thriving Aceh,” he said.
