JAKARTA - Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman revealed key changes in the revised Police Law (RUU Polri).

He stated the RUU Polri was drafted to complement the new Criminal Code (KUHP) and Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), as well as follow recommendations from the Police Reform Acceleration Commission.

“The Police Law RUU includes eight key changes across 11 articles and explanations,” Habiburokhman said during a Commission III DPR meeting in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, 25 May 2026.

The Gerindra politician also emphasised that the selection of the Kapolri remains the President’s prerogative.

“We also affirm that provisions in the RUU Polri will not deviate from the 1945 Constitution and MPR Decrees No. VI and VII of 2000, including the rule that Kapolri selection is the President’s prerogative,” he added.

“Therefore, to effectively and responsively address recommendations from the Special Committee and Police Reform Acceleration Commission, Commission III DPR has drafted the Police Law RUU,” Habiburokhman concluded.
