Reviewing Residents Along Railway Tracks, Prabowo Promises Decent Housing

President Prabowo Subianto directly visited a densely populated residential area along the railway tracks in Senen, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (26/3). The visit highlighted the conditions of residents’ homes, which are tightly packed and located extremely close to the train tracks, just around three kilometres from the capital’s centre.

In a post on his Instagram account @prabowo, Prabowo described the visit as an effort to directly observe the conditions of the community in the field. After dialoguing with residents, Prabowo expressed his commitment to accelerating the provision of more decent housing.

“Listening to the aspirations of the people there, Insya Allah we will soon build decent housing for the community in that area quickly. And it has become my determination to provide decent housing for the Indonesian people,” he stated, as quoted on Friday (27/3).

During the inspection, Prabowo was seen conversing with residents and listening to their complaints. He also interacted directly several times, including shaking hands with residents who crowded around him. In one moment, he even stood on the tracks when a train passed by, before being reminded by residents to step aside.

The cramped and uninhabitable environmental conditions became the main focus of the visit. The settlements stand closely along the tracks, illustrating longstanding issues of urbanisation and limited access to housing in Jakarta.
