Reviewing Ministerial Performance and Priority Programmes in the Prabowo Era

Amidst global uncertainty and domestic challenges, the Indonesian government under President Prabowo Subianto is targeting ambitious national economic growth of 8% by 2029. This target is reflected in a series of priority programmes across various ministries related to accelerating investment, enhancing energy and food security, and driving digital transformation. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudha Sadewa previously stated that the strategy to achieve this growth includes promoting aligned and mutually reinforcing fiscal, monetary, and financial sector policies. The government is also accelerating high-value-added, export-oriented investment and encouraging the role of BPI Danantara to speed up productive investment in strategic sectors. Long-term investment to leverage state assets is being strengthened through increased global investor participation. Fiscal policy next year will be directed at propelling the national economy to grow higher and deliver prosperity faster. However, the 8% growth target cannot be achieved solely through increased state spending; each ministry plays a crucial role as an economic driver through its authority in formulating policies, regulations, and oversight within its respective sector. Synergy between ministries is clearly needed to ensure the success of the government’s overall priority programmes and to accelerate national economic growth.
