Reviewing Komcad Latsarmil, Defence Minister: Civil Servants Need to Have a Defence of the State Mentality
Indonesia’s Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin has emphasised that civil servants (ASN) must possess a defence of the state mentality, as the ministries and agencies where they work play strategic roles for Indonesia.
This message was conveyed by Sjafrie during his inspection of the Basic Military Training (Latsarmil) for Reserve Component (Komcad) Civil Servants (ASN) at the 1st Marine Infantry Brigade, Cilandak, Jakarta, on Wednesday (29/4/2026).
“Ministries and agencies are strategic pillars in strengthening the Unitary Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). Therefore, ASN need to have a defence of the state mentality grounded in values of nationalism, patriotism, and professionalism,” said Sjafrie, quoted from a press release.
He assessed that these values require a process, commitment, and sincerity from each participant.
Sjafrie also appreciated the participants’ progress during the training, which he said showed improvements in discipline, cohesiveness, and team spirit.
“Such improvements are important considering that ASN are key elements in supporting the performance of ministries and agencies,” said Sjafrie.
The participants come from several agencies, including the State Secretariat Ministry, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Ministry of Transmigration, Ministry of Cooperatives, Ministry of Tourism, and Ministry of Forestry.
Sjafrie viewed the diversity of the participants’ backgrounds from various agencies as a strength that reflects the spirit of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika.
“Therefore, you are demanded to give your best service as a form of accountability to the public,” said Sjafrie.
Sjafrie hopes that by the end of the training, the participants will be able to demonstrate the qualities of disciplined, integrity-filled Komcad ASN who serve as role models in their work environments.
It is known that there are 1,773 ASN from various ministries and agencies currently undergoing the 90-day Komcad Latsarmil since 22 April 2026 last week.
