Reviewing Forest Fires in Kubu Raya, Prabowo Ensures Optimal Firefighting
President Prabowo Subianto directly inspected the location of forest and land fires in Limbung Village, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan, on Saturday (22/8). The visit was conducted to ensure that firefighting efforts by joint personnel were running optimally and effectively in the field.
According to the Presidential Secretariat, the Head of State walked through the burned land area to observe the extent of the damage and the ongoing handling process. Prabowo was accompanied by a number of ministers and relevant officials during the inspection.
In his directives, the President emphasised the importance of speed and inter-agency coordination in handling forest and land fires. This is intended to bring hotspots under control quickly so that they do not spread to residential areas or other forest areas in Kalimantan.
At the site, President Prabowo also took time to greet firefighters who were working on the ground. The Head of State’s presence served as a form of appreciation and moral support for the hard work of all elements involved in controlling the fires.
In addition to interacting with personnel, the President also spoke with affected local residents. This step was taken to directly monitor the social and health situation of communities exposed to smoke from the land fires.
The government affirmed its commitment to continue deploying all resources to accelerate firefighting efforts. Prevention strategies are also being strengthened so that similar incidents do not spread in West Kalimantan and surrounding areas.
The forest and land fires have been ongoing for 12 days, with an estimated affected area of more than 10 hectares, and are increasingly approaching residential areas. The Indonesian government continues to strengthen integrated operations for controlling forest and land fires in the Kalimantan region. Based on BMKG monitoring, 206 hotspots have been detected due to forest and land fires across several regencies in West Kalimantan.
