Jakarta (ANTARA) — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo will continue efforts to establish a Jakarta-specific Education Fund Management Agency (LPDP) despite cuts to revenue-sharing (DBH) transfers from the central government.

“The Jakarta LPDP would actually have been up and running already had the DBH not been cut by Rp15 trillion. We have now begun preparations for it,” Pramono said at City Hall on Thursday.

Pramono said he was genuinely committed to ensuring high-achieving Jakarta schoolchildren could pursue education abroad through the LPDP programme being prepared by the DKI Jakarta administration.

To that end, Pramono pledged to press ahead with the plan despite Jakarta’s DBH being slashed by Rp15 trillion. “I will make it happen,” he said firmly.

Previously, Pramono had expressed hope the scholarship programme could commence in 2026. He even intended to extend the scheme to 100 high-achieving Jakarta university students.

Pramono is confident the programme can serve as valuable capital for Jakarta’s young people, particularly those from less fortunate backgrounds, giving them the opportunity to study overseas.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will focus the programme on disadvantaged children who are Jakarta residents.

“I want this to be given to those who are less fortunate. So this programme will not only break the cycle of disadvantage but also develop better human resources whilst broadening the horizons of our young people,” he said.
