Revealed: Trump-MBS Phone Conversation Discusses Iran Ceasefire
US President Donald Trump reportedly held a phone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS). The discussion addressed the prospects of a ceasefire with Iran amid the intensifying conflict. Citing an Axios report on Thursday (2/4/2026), Trump briefed MBS on developments in “negotiations regarding the possibility of a ceasefire” currently underway through indirect channels. This discussion occurred as the US is also exploring proposals to halt the conflict with Iran via mediators. One of the main points discussed was the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as a vital global oil trade route. However, Iran has denied any direct negotiations with Washington and considers the proposed terms overly demanding. On the other side, President Trump has previously stated that a ceasefire would only be considered if the Strait of Hormuz is reopened and made safe for passage. The conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran, which erupted at the end of February, continues unabated. Air strikes by the US and its allies have killed thousands and provoked retaliatory drone and missile attacks from Iran on various targets in the region. This tension has also shaken global markets. Disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, the main route for world oil distribution, have driven up energy prices and heightened risks to the global supply chain.
