Revealed: TPUA Already Frozen by Habib Rizieq

It has been revealed that the Team for the Defence of Clerics and Activists (TPUA) has been frozen. The organisation was suspended by its founder and patron, Habib Rizieq Shihab.

As compiled on Wednesday (18/2/2026), the TPUA leadership has been officially frozen by Habib Rizieq Shihab. This was disclosed by former TPUA chairman Eggi Sudjana during a visit to the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) in South Jakarta.

Eggi explained that the freezing of TPUA was carried out following internal turmoil. As a result, he and his secretary-general, Damai Hari Lubis (DHL), are no longer part of TPUA.

“Firstly, regarding the turmoil within TPUA. Secondly, as the founder and patron of TPUA — meaning Habib Rizieq — the TPUA leadership has been temporarily frozen by Habib Rizieq. The mandate has been withdrawn, so to speak, and I, together with DHL, have willingly surrendered it. Because DHL is my secretary-general,” Eggi told reporters.

He stressed that Rizieq Shihab did not sack him from TPUA, describing such reports as misleading.

“And there should be no impression that we were sacked by Habib Rizieq or anything like that — that is misleading and does not reflect the truth,” he explained.

Eggi said he would continue his activist work through another organisation. The TPUA Board of Patrons advised him to join the Koordinator Bela Islam (Korlabi).

“The Board of Patrons asked me whether I wished to continue the struggle in the context of defending Islam. They said: choose between API or Korlabi, which is led by DHL. Given that choice from Habib, I chose Korlabi,” he said.
