The jewellery retailer Tiffany & Co. is now able to resume operations as usual after declaring its readiness to meet tax obligations. This commitment was conveyed directly to the Minister of Finance, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa.

“Tiffany is willing to comply with government regulations; they will also pay, and things will be better moving forward,” said Purbaya when met at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas on Monday (8/6/2026).

Purbaya stated that Tiffany & Co. can now operate across all its outlets. “That is correct, the seals have been lifted, and I was the one who lifted them; the inspectors from the Jakarta Directorate General of Customs and Excise have opened them,” he said.

According to Purbaya, this decision also serves as a message to all business actors in Indonesia. “I told them that we will not take actions that make it difficult for them to do business in Indonesia. The same applies to other investors. As long as they comply with the rules, they will not face such situations again. However, moving forward, we will ensure there are no sealings if parties are willing to compromise,” he explained.

As previously reported, in February 2026, the Jakarta Regional Office of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise sealed three Tiffany & Co. stores in the Senayan area, Jakarta. The sealing was part of an enforcement operation aimed at increasing customs and excise compliance.

“We from the Jakarta Regional Office of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise conducted an operation regarding high-value goods, specifically items suspected of not being declared in the import notifications,” said the Head of the Enforcement Section of the Jakarta Customs Regional Office, Siswo Kristyanto, in a written statement on Thursday (12/2/2026).

The Jakarta Customs Regional Office explained that the sealing was related to suspected administrative violations regarding goods imported by the American luxury jewellery retailer.

The enforcement action followed instructions from Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa to explore potential revenue sources beyond the standard customs and excise collections.

The jewellery store has been issued a Customs Determination Letter with a total value of IDR 97.49 billion. The largest component is a fine of IDR 78.50 billion, alongside Import Duty, Import VAT, and Import Income Tax (PPh 22).
