Jakarta, VIVA - The origin of the vehicle registration number used by the perpetrator who assaulted a petrol station employee in East Jakarta has been revealed by the police.

The Head of the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Alfian Nurrizal, explained that the number plate ‘L 1 XD’ attached to the perpetrator’s car, identified as JMH, was registered to a green Toyota Land Cruiser.

“After we checked, the number plate ‘L 1 XD’ is registered to a green Toyota Land Cruiser. Meanwhile, the vehicle used by the suspect during the incident was a black Toyota Vellfire,” he said on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

The number plate was found not to belong to the vehicle driven by the perpetrator at the time of the incident. The investigation revealed that the perpetrator had borrowed the number plate from an associate.

The perpetrator attached the number plate to the car he was driving before stopping at the petrol station to refuel.

“He took or borrowed it from an associate. So, the number plate belongs to someone else,” he said.

The discrepancy between the number plate and the type of vehicle is believed to have been the cause of the tension at the petrol station. When the employee noticed the irregularity, a debate ensued, which eventually led to the assault.

The police are currently investigating the reason why the perpetrator used a number plate that did not match the vehicle. This includes the possibility of a specific motive behind the use of the borrowed number plate.

“We are still investigating all matters related to the perpetrator at the location,” said Alfian.

For your information, the man who assaulted three petrol station employees in the Cipinang area, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, and who shouted ‘general’s car’ and ‘police chief’s car’, tested positive for drugs.

The perpetrator, later identified as JMH, tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana. This was revealed after he underwent a urine test due to his erratic behaviour during questioning by the police after his arrest.

“The perpetrator tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana,” said the Head of the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Alfian Nurrizal, quoted from his official Instagram account on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

It turns out that the perpetrator is just a private entrepreneur. He is a car rental worker, not a member of the police force. JMH has now been named as a suspect.
