Revealed: The Culprit Behind Frequent Flooding on KRL Tracks Between Kebayoran and Pondok Ranji Stations
The railway tracks in the Bintaro area, Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta, specifically in RT 14 RW 6, are prone to flooding. In addition to disrupting residents, the pooling water that often inundates the area between Kebayoran Lama Station and Pondok Ranji Station also inconveniences passengers on the KRL Green Line from Tanah Abang to Rangkasbitung. During rainfall, the location frequently causes disruptions to train services. It is suspected that the water channels along the tracks are the main cause of the flooding. “The drains aren’t deep at all. They’re clogged with mud because every flood brings mud and dirt (rubbish),” said resident Romlah (49), when met by Kompas.com at the site on Saturday (9/5/2026). Kompas.com observations at the location revealed that even on clear weather days, rubbish was still floating in the channels under the tracks. The water surface was visible almost reaching the top of the channel walls, making it easy to overflow when the flow increases. The area around Romlah’s house in Gang Haji Manat becomes a collection point for water. The channel in front of her house is small and shallow. However, the water retention function has now been lost due to housing developments. “Because there have been housing constructions behind it, there’s no water retention area,” Romlah explained. When the water flow is high, the pooling lasts a long time in front of residents’ houses until the river recedes.
