Revealed! The Contents of the Draft US-Iran Peace Agreement
The United States and Iran have reportedly reached an oral agreement to end the war that has been ongoing for some time. The agreement is now merely awaiting the formal signing of the discussed draft contents.
Quoting Reuters, the contents of the peace agreement between the United States and Iran include the unfreezing of billions of dollars in Tehran’s assets, the easing of oil sanctions, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
In the draft obtained by Reuters from several sources, the US is said to be prepared to begin providing access to billions of dollars in Iranian assets that have been frozen, as well as providing relief on oil export sanctions. In return, Iran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which was previously closed following US and Israeli attacks last February.
Iran’s nuclear programme will be discussed during a 60-day negotiation period. Washington desires the dismantling of Iran’s nuclear programme and the destruction of highly enriched uranium stockpiles. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi emphasised that Iran wishes to retain the uranium in a depleted form.
Based on the draft memorandum of understanding currently under discussion, Iran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the US will end its naval blockade of Iranian ports. Following this, both nations will continue negotiations regarding Tehran’s nuclear programme, which was the primary reason Washington launched previous military operations.
A US official stated that the agreement meets the primary objectives of President Donald Trump and places the negotiation process in an excellent position. “This agreement meets President Trump’s main goals and puts negotiations in a very good position,” they said, as quoted on Sunday (14/6/2026).
Pakistan is said to have acted as a mediator in the negotiations. Meanwhile, Western sources suggest that the signing of the agreement could potentially take place as early as Sunday (14/6), with Geneva, Switzerland, being the most likely chosen location.
A senior US government official stated that both countries have agreed on the draft text of the treaty and Washington hopes an initial agreement can be signed within the next few days. “Both parties have agreed to the text, and we expect an initial agreement to be signed in the coming days,” said a US official who requested anonymity, as quoted from Reuters on Saturday (13/6).
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi also confirmed the progress of the negotiations. Although there is still a possibility of changes to the contents of the agreement, he assessed that the interim results show Iran emerging as the stronger party. “Iran is the winner of the war with the US,” said Araqchi in an interview with Iranian state television.
Amidst this diplomatic progress, military tensions persist. Reuters reported that US forces shot down several Iranian suicide drones flying towards the Strait of Hormuz because they were deemed a threat to commercial shipping traffic.
