Taufik Hidayat, the suspect in the case of the confinement and torture of a woman with the initials YTR in Bandung Regency, has been revealed to be a repeat offender in a case of violence against his former wife. West Java Police Chief, Inspector General Rudi Setiawan, stated that Taufik had previously been convicted in a similar case in the city of Bandung, for which he was sentenced to one year and four months in prison. “This suspect is a repeat offender because he previously committed similar violence against a woman and was sentenced to one year and four months in prison. That incident occurred in the city of Bandung,” he said on Friday, 26 June 2026. He stated that his party would charge the suspect with multiple articles to ensure he receives a punishment commensurate with his actions. “The West Java Regional Police will maximise the application of articles against the suspect. We ask for everyone’s support so that the violence committed by the suspect receives a commensurate punishment,” Rudi said. Based on the results of the preliminary investigation, the suspect allegedly repeatedly abused the victim using his bare hands, blunt objects such as iron, sharp weapons, a helmet, and even burned the victim’s body with cigarettes. The victim was also allegedly confined in a rented room and not allowed to leave because the door was locked from the outside. “These acts were carried out repeatedly because the suspect felt upset and jealous towards the victim,” he said. He added that investigators are still completing the evidence and coordinating with the West Java High Prosecutor’s Office to optimise the law enforcement process against the suspect. Taufik Hidayat (30), the man suspected of holding his girlfriend captive and torturing her for three years in Bandung, has finally had his flight stopped. After being a fugitive hunted by a joint team from the West Java Regional Police, the suspect was arrested by the police. This arrest marks a crucial point in the investigation of a case that has recently drawn significant public attention, as the victim, YTR (29), was found in a concerning condition with multiple severe injuries believed to be the result of prolonged violence.
