The Yogyakarta City Police (Polresta Jogja) conducted a reconstruction of the murder of a student with the initials AA (18) near SMAN 3 Jogja. A total of 19 scenes were re-enacted, beginning with the victim and the suspects crossing paths and culminating in the fatal slashing.

The reconstruction was held in the central courtyard of the Yogyakarta Police Headquarters on Tuesday (7/7/2026). Two main suspects, LTF (18) alias Lupek and YSF (18) alias Ucup, were present for the re-enactment, while another suspect, F (17), was replaced by a stand-in as he is a minor.

‘Some of those still on the wanted list were also replaced by stand-ins,’ explained Police First Inspector Gara Kinarta Immanuel Purba, Acting Head of Unit 3 of the Criminal Investigation Unit.

He detailed that the incident began when the group of six suspects, riding three motorbikes, encountered the victim, who was riding pillion with a witness, on Jalan Magelang in Tegalrejo on Sunday (17/5). ‘The motive, as we can see from the reconstruction, initially involved staring at each other, which escalated into challenging one another. However, there was no element of a pre-arranged meeting or inter-gang brawl in this case,’ Gara stated.

Upon reaching the Pingit intersection, the victim’s motorbike was overtaken by a bike ridden by fugitive suspect Farel, with Ucup riding pillion. Ucup then engaged the victim in conversation. ‘Which school?’ Ucup asked. ‘None of your business!’ the victim snapped back. ‘So, which school do you go to?’ Ucup retorted. ‘I don’t go to school!’ the victim replied. The exchange stopped when the traffic light turned green, and both parties headed south.

At the roundabout near the DIY Traffic Police Headquarters, the two groups separated, with the victim heading east. However, a crucial moment occurred when the victim looked back, waved his hand at the suspects, and shouted, ‘Come here!’. Seeing this, the suspects immediately turned around and gave chase.

The pursuit ended in front of SMAN 3 Jogja. Suspect Lupek dismounted immediately after the victim stopped his motorbike. Lupek, who had been carrying a sickle from the start, swung it and struck the victim once on the upper right chest. ‘In the reconstruction, it is clear that the victim received a single slash precisely on the upper right chest. As a result, while being transported to the hospital, the victim fell,’ Gara explained. ‘In fact, after being assisted by a church ambulance, the victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.’
