Revealed: Israel Deceived Trump About Assassination Plot in Turkey, What Was the Motive?
The Washington Post has reported that an Iranian threat to assassinate US President Donald Trump prompted an extraordinary operation last month.
In that operation, Trump secretly left Turkey using a substitute military aircraft, while the White House announced that he was aboard the official presidential plane.
Based on documents obtained by The Washington Post, as well as accounts from an official and other sources familiar with the matter, the secret mission had never previously been disclosed.
The operation was even carried out without the knowledge of a number of journalists and some White House staff who believed they were on the same plane as the President.
The United States government had previously stated that Trump left Turkey on 8 July using the older presidential aircraft.
Trump himself had earlier announced via social media that he would use the “old presidential plane”, or “Air Force One”, rather than the new presidential aircraft that had brought him to Turkey.
In Ankara, Trump boarded the older jumbo presidential aircraft in front of television cameras. However, according to the US official and supporting materials, a few minutes later Trump was secretly moved to a smaller aircraft, a C-32A military plane, via a catering truck of the kind normally used to transport food to aircraft before take-off.
The official explained that this step made the older presidential aircraft a “decoy”. Journalists and a number of White House staff boarded that plane, while Trump had in fact been moved to another aircraft.
