Revealed in Court: The Track Record of Didik Putra Kuncoro, Former Bima Police Chief Who Sent Family on Umrah Using Drug Money

The name AKBP Didik Putra Kuncoro has once again drawn public attention after the first hearing of the narcotics case against him revealed new facts. The former Bima Kota Police Chief is accused of using money from drug sales to finance an Umrah pilgrimage for his family. This fact emerged in the indictment read by the Public Prosecutor at the Raba Bima District Court. The case has attracted significant attention because Didik was a middle-ranking police officer with a long career history. However, his career trajectory ended after he was given a dishonourable discharge (PTDH) for his alleged involvement in narcotics abuse. Born in Kediri, East Java, on 30 March 1979, Didik Putra Kuncoro is the fourth of five siblings, the son of Moersidi, a teacher, and Sri Darmiyati. He grew up in a modest family that instilled the values of honesty and hard work. His ambition to join the police force was realised after he passed the selection for the Police Academy (Akpol) in 2001, graduating in 2004 as part of the Tatag Trawang Tungga Battalion. His first assignment was at the Gorontalo Regional Police. After about two years, he was transferred to the Metro Jaya Regional Police, where he held several positions, including Head of the Operational Analysis Sub-unit at the South Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit and Deputy Chief of the South Tangerang Police. In 2020, Didik was transferred to the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Regional Police, where he served as Head of Sub-directorate I of the General Criminal Investigation Directorate, Head of Sub-directorate IV of the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate, and Head of Sub-directorate III of the Narcotics Investigation Directorate. His career continued to rise, and he was appointed Chief of the North Lombok Police on 20 July 2023. Shortly thereafter, in January 2025, he was inaugurated as the Chief of the Bima Kota Police. Didik’s name came under scrutiny after the National Police Criminal Investigation Department named him a suspect in a narcotics abuse case. Shortly afterwards, a Police Code of Ethics Commission hearing resulted in a sanction of dishonourable discharge.
