Revealed: How the Mossad's Fabricated Demonstration Failed to Overthrow the Iranian Regime and the Behind-the-Scenes Story of the Iran War
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, ROME—A report published by the Italian website “Inside Over” reveals the failure of a complex intelligence plan to overthrow the Iranian regime from within. What initially appeared as a quick bet on internal explosions turned into a costly strategic mistake, despite receiving political and intelligence support from the United States and Israel. Author Roberto Vivaldelli, in his article on the site, quoted by Al Jazeera on Thursday (26/3/2026), stated that Mossad’s support for anti-government protests in Iran was not entirely a secret, as the Israeli intelligence agency’s official account in Persian had openly incited the population for months to take to the streets. Additionally, public statements from former US officials, such as former CIA Director Mike Pompeo, revealed coordination between Tel Aviv and Washington to support the internal opposition. However, an investigation published by The New York Times, based on interviews with more than 12 current and former officials from the United States, Israel, and other countries, provides a broader and more practically clear picture. That is, Mossad’s role was not limited to media support or rhetoric, but involved meticulously planning an integrated operation aimed at overthrowing the regime within the framework of a war strategy. Barnea’s Plan The author explains that this story began in mid-January, when Mossad Director David Barnea approached Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with an ambitious plan. According to him, the plan would enable Israel’s intelligence agency, in the early days of the outbreak of fighting, to ignite Iranian opposition and trigger unrest and potential rebellion actions that could lead to the collapse of the theocratic regime.
