Jakarta – Polda Metro Jaya has revealed new facts regarding PT Hasanah Tama Internasional, or Hanania Group. The umrah travel operator has reportedly been experiencing financial problems since 2023.

This was disclosed by the Director of General Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanudin, during a public hearing with Commission III of the House of Representatives and representatives of Hanania Travel victims at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 18 June 2026.

“We also inform the leadership that we have found facts based on the investigation or the suspect’s examination report that this problem actually began to emerge in 2023,” Iman said.

Iman revealed that Hanania Travel frequently employed a ‘robbing Peter to pay Paul’ scheme to finance its operations.

“So since 2023, the management of PT Hasanah Tama Internasional or Hanania Group has been experiencing payment problems, whether for tickets, hotels, or mutawif there. So they began using a robbing Peter to pay Paul scheme,” he stated.

According to him, Hanania Travel often used funds from new prospective pilgrims or subsequent batches to cover the operational costs of previous batches.

“To dispatch today’s group, the person concerned took or used money from the group that would depart next,” he explained.

In addition, Iman explained that the funds received from pilgrims were not used by Hanania Travel according to their intended purpose. For instance, pilgrim funds were used to pay employee salaries and for advertising promotions.

“Then the funds received from pilgrims were not used according to their purpose. Instead, they were used to cover the costs of dispatching pilgrims from previous periods, then for company operations, employee salaries, promotions, and other obligations, thus creating a robbing Peter to pay Paul scheme,” Iman concluded.

It was previously reported that Polda Metro Jaya detained the President Director of PT Khazanah Tamma Internasional, with the initials ASF, in connection with an alleged fraud and/or embezzlement case involving Hanania Group’s umrah travel services. The detention was carried out after ASF was officially named a suspect in the case. The case has drawn attention because the number of reported victims reaches hundreds, with total losses amounting to billions of rupiah.
