Revealed: Green SM Taxi Hit by KRL Should Have Returned to Depot for Maintenance

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Management of Green SM taxis stated that the electric vehicle struck by an electric rail train (KRL) at the level crossing on Ampera Road, East Bekasi, should have already entered the depot for routine maintenance. Based on the company’s internal regulations, every vehicle is required to undergo a roadworthiness check after travelling 15,000 kilometres. The head of public relations for Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Pol Budi Hermanto, revealed that the car driven by a driver with initials RRP at the time of the incident had actually travelled 24,000 kilometres. Police are now delving into the possibility that the lack of vehicle maintenance was one of the causes of the electric car stalling on the tracks. “Well, we are still investigating the impact of the electric car stalling at the railway level crossing, whether it includes the effect of not having carried out maintenance? Well, we are still conducting an assessment,” said Budi. Currently, the taxi driver is still undergoing examination by investigators from the Subdirectorate of State Security (Kamneg) of Metro Jaya Police. They include Recruitment Manager with initials RS, training officer MI, Repair and Maintenance Control Manager BM, and Bekasi Operational Department Manager SF. Police confirmed that the accident case involving the KRL, the Argo Bromo Anggrek train, and the Green SM taxi has escalated to the investigation stage. “This has advanced to the investigation stage. Scene checks, witness examinations, collection of evidence, and CCTV analysis have been conducted,” said Budi at East Intersection of the National Monument, Thursday (30/4/2026). Police are still investigating the exact cause of the electric vehicle stopping at the Ampera Road level crossing. According to Budi, to date, no suspects have been determined because the Forensic Laboratory Centre (Puslabfor) of National Police Headquarters is still examining the main cause of the incident. “If it’s witnesses, detention has not been carried out, we clarify. So if it’s witnesses, we still need the individuals for some statements,” said Budi.
