Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) Basuki Hadimuldjono has provided the latest update on Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s plan to begin working from Nusantara Capital City (IKN).

Basuki has not yet confirmed exactly when Gibran will start carrying out his activities from IKN. However, he assured that the Vice President will work from Nusantara this year.

According to Basuki, a number of staff from the Vice President’s Secretariat have already begun working at IKN. This situation is one indication that the Vice President’s activities at IKN will commence soon.

“God willing, this year. God willing, this year, because several of his staff are already here,” Basuki told reporters at IKN, Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan, as quoted by detikcom on Saturday (15/08/2026).

Basuki said that the physical construction of the Vice Presidential Palace is now approaching its final stage. At present, OIKN only needs to complete a number of requirements inside the building.

He explained that the furniture procurement process for the Vice Presidential Palace is still ongoing through a tender mechanism.

“It just needs the furniture to be filled in, which is currently being tendered,” Basuki explained.

Although he is planned to begin working from IKN this year, Gibran is confirmed not to attend the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia ceremony in Nusantara.

Basuki said Gibran will be in Jakarta to accompany President Prabowo Subianto during the series of Independence Day celebrations.

Meanwhile, the Vice Presidential Palace area in IKN has begun to be opened to the public. The opening takes place during the period of 15-17 August 2026.

Basuki said the opening of the area was carried out at Gibran’s request, given the high enthusiasm of the public who came to visit the area.

“Starting today, in accordance with the Vice President’s request, because there are many visitors, we are opening it,” he concluded.
