Revealed! Former Ombudsman Chairman Allegedly Received House in Addition to IDR 1.5 Billion in Southeast Sulawesi Nickel Case
New facts have been revealed by the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) regarding the alleged corruption case involving nickel mining trade governance.
The former Chair of the Indonesian Ombudsman, Hery Susanto, is alleged to have received not only billions of rupiah but also a residential property unit related to the case. These allegations emerged from case files that investigators have transferred to the prosecution stage. The Attorney General’s Office suspects that the benefits received by Hery were linked to his role in issuing an Ombudsman Audit Result Report (LHP) that was deemed beneficial to a specific mining company.
The Acting Head of the Legal Information Centre of the Attorney General’s Office, Mohammad Jeffry, stated that Hery allegedly obtained several facilities from a company currently dealing with the government regarding its payment obligations to the state. “That HS has unlawfully received a sum of money from companies. In addition, Mr HS also received one residential house unit,” he said, as reported on Thursday, 11 June 2026.
Investigators revealed that the case began when PT Toshida Indonesia (TSHI) faced Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) bills amounting to approximately Rp130 billion, as determined by the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry. In this situation, Hery, who was serving as a Commissioner of the Indonesian Ombudsman for the 2021-2026 period, was allegedly asked for assistance by the company.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, Hery allegedly manipulated the audit process to produce an LHP stating that the Ministry of Forestry’s determination of payment obligations was incorrect. This condition reportedly provided the company with the leeway to calculate its own amount of obligations to be paid to the state. Investigators suspect that the Ombudsman’s LHP was used to influence the Ministry of Forestry’s policy, ultimately benefiting PT TSHI. In exchange for this role, Hery allegedly received substantial rewards. “For his actions, Hery was given a monetary reward of Rp1.5 billion,” he added.
It was previously reported that the legal fate of the former Ombudsman Chair, Hery Susanto, has entered a new phase. After being named a suspect in the alleged corruption case involving nickel mining trade governance, the Attorney General’s Office has transferred Hery to the South Jakarta District Attorney’s Office (Kejari Jaksel) to proceed with the prosecution process. This second stage transfer was conducted along with the evidence after investigators from the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) completed the investigation. The Head of the Legal Information Centre of the Attorney General’s Office, Anang Supriatna, confirmed the transfer.
